To get your home ready for fall, you may need to do more than just put up Halloween decorations and light a few pumpkin spice candles. Clean out your home’s gutters.
Autumn tends to be tough on gutter systems. Leaves from nearby trees may accumulate in your gutters and make it difficult for them to perform effectively during periods of heavy rain. This, in turn, can allow rainwater to pour down your siding and pool around your foundation. To prevent leaves from clogging your gutters, clean them once at the end of summer and again before the winter sets in. This will keep your gutters in tip-top shape all season long.
Eliminate drafts around doors and windows.
Before you fire up the furnace this year, make a point to inspect the weatherstripping around your doors and windows first. If the weatherstripping is missing or damaged, replace it as soon as possible. This will not only keep your home more comfortable during the fall and winter, but also help you save money on your energy bills.
Repair cracks in your driveway.
Have you noticed a few small cracks starting to form in your driveway? If so, it’s a good idea to get these fixed before the temperatures start to drop. Once water gets into the cracks and freezes, it can cause the cracks to expand and leave unsightly holes in your driveway. Get these cracks filled now so you won’t have to do more extensive repairs in the spring.
