Persistent Allergy Symptoms Can be Signs of Household Mold

During the spring, it’s not uncommon for people to exhibit seasonal allergy symptoms caused by pollen exposure from blooming flowers. If you find these allergy symptoms persist all year round, however, they could be caused by the presence of mold in your home. This is especially likely if you find that your allergy symptoms get worse when you’re at home, and improve when you leave the house for the day.

According to the CDC, common symptoms of mold sensitivity include nasal congestion, throat and eye irritation, coughing or wheezing, and skin irritation in some cases. These symptoms may be exacerbated by immune disorders and chronic lung illnesses such as asthma. The Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine has also found evidence linking indoor mold exposure to symptoms of upper respiratory tract issues in otherwise healthy people.

If you suspect there might be mold growing in your home, you can start by looking in areas that are prone to moisture buildup, such as bathrooms and basements. In some cases, you may be able to spot tell-tale mold and mildew stains on tile and concrete surfaces in these areas. If the mold growth is widespread, it may be hidden behind layers of sheetrock and insulation.

If you’re still concerned about the presence of mold in your home, the team at Center Grove can conduct a thorough mold verification inspection to determine whether or not mold remediation is required. Give us a call or contact us online to schedule your appointment today!
